Dark Siders Contest

So this is my entry for the contest . I was hoping to win this one since I never won a contest before but too many badass artist are entering. Hopefully I can place!!

Something Happy

So I know I haven't been posting as much as I'd like to. Been super busy at work. However, it is cool to see our game coming along. I have to learn to do sprite animations. Though it is challenging I am starting to kind of enjoy it.

Anyways this painting was started on live stream then I finished it up on my off time. This is as far as I want to take it for now. I think it might make a good present for some family members possibly :)

Also I am thankful my girlfriend Stefanie is ok. She was in a car accident yesterday. Though the car is totaled she is fine so I am definitely thankful for the simply things we can take for granted sometimes.

It has been awhile

So been super busy at work. Kind of stressful at times. I went to CTN Animation Expo last week. It was super fun and met a lot of cool people.

This painting was an idea I had for inside of my castle thingy for Caladan. I would consider it a failed painting for the idea I had in my head was a lot better. So there a lot of execution problems. Going straight to color has always been a problem of mine. So it was good to practice it. Though i do not like it. I evaluated a lot of my mistakes and will bring what I learned into the next painting. No fear!

Caladan Close Up

So here is my close up shot of Caladan. One thing I learn from Jackson was keeping things in mind in terms of shooting a film. Though the big shape reads nicely as a first read , I would have to think of putting things that would be visually interesting so when I shoot from ground level I don't just see a big white wall.

So I am learning a good deal from cda class , friggin badass people in there! Peter Lee is in there!!!! dude is sooo good. Ne ways its halloween I should be doing something lol

Caladan Est. Shot

Here is my iteration on the establishing shot. I did a bunch of crappy sketches and paintings and this was the one I came to . Again sorry for the crappy post last week :) . I will try to redesign my far out shot along with my up-close shot

So yeah keeping with the whole monster type theme , I never do creatures so it is always fun to try to explore different ways of paintings. Just started Jackson Sze and Cecil Kim's class and its friggin awesome. So many talented people in there its kind of intimidating so I hope I do well there along many other things that have been going on so I am very lucky and blessed so. Expect lots of environments in the near future!

Thanks to Jason for letting me sit in his class. I definitely learned different ways about being creative and stepping out of my comfort zone so major props to him. Definitely lots of exciting things to come I hope.

this picture is hilarious to me iono why lol. Ne ways i was doing sketches for a friends possible iphone game idea. It didn't fall through but I remember liking some of the sketches I did. So I ended up taking one and just started painting on it.

Beast of 9

This is my submission for the beast of 9 contest . I collaborated a lot with edgar cardona on this one, he brought a lot of good ideas on this and traded off painting on top of it towards the end , so major props to him. I couldn't have done it without him. Same with AJ for giving me some initial tips as well.

I got the chance to go to the making of 9 at gnomon and got a little inside of how the movie was made, Definitely inspiring to see as an artist. Took a lot of notes so I could incorporate it into my own design

Did this one rather quickly since I lost my wacom pen this week so it had to be done during my spare time at work. Overall I think me and my friends are happy of how it came out.

Shout out to Epic Juice

Makoto!

So I am a big fan of 3rd strike and Makoto has always been my fav character. 100% stuns always made me gravitate towards her. Plus everyone plays Ken, Yun, Chun and she is high enough tier where she can compete, and I love using 3rd super.

No one really draws her I noticed so I decided to do a little sketch of her. I figured I would draw her after she just got done training. So if there are any Makoto fans represent!!

Environment Demo

Here is a little demo I did at the concept club for somebody. I tried to show my process and how I tend to handle things . It took me about an hour I believe to get it to a point I liked and then I took it home and refined it a little. It was kind of on the spot, I normally would have done sketches thumbnails etc but it's all good. I saved a psd so people could keep track of how I paint. Its pretty messy anyways enjoy!

Edgar Payne Studies

Been studying a lot of his work and reading his book . Learning a good deal . I will try to keep up with these studies : ) . Took me about an hour , trying to become more comfortable with my color choices

The Arrival

Haven't painted as much as I'd like due to work. So I am trying to get back into the groove of things. Gotta re-inspired by peeps like Charest , Steambot, and Chadeisson . Also that shadow of the Colossus game. Any ways it took me about two days on and off. Starting to get a better grasp of my process.

Other than that I am trying to get into the cda environment class since Jackson Sze is teaching he is like one of my favorite artist so hopefully I can get in there as well. Other than that just trying to get better at art and being disciplined in all aspects of my life (ie praticing, listening, physical and mental stability all that fun stuff)

Well I have rambled too much. OFF TO SKETCH GROUP!!!

Taking things further

So painting started off as a simple edgar payne type study. Totally did not that end that way . What started out as a horizontal shot turned into a vertical shot . Jason told me to make it vertical then Dan kept telling me to take it all the way into space lol . So what was supposed to be small became this large ass painting. I took screenshots of all the detail lol.

On a side note I took Nathan Fowkes workshop this saturday. It was amazing. I am going to buy paints today so I can start practicing my painting and composition skills every night!

haven't done speed paints in a long time . I forgot much fun they can be. Trying to make it a habit to post more . Work keeps me busy . It is probably a good thing

The Love Below

this was kind of random , but it was fun. I was looking through Stefanie's sketchbook(which apparently is a goldmine of ideas lol) and saw a cool drawing and I decided to redraw it, and somehow this came out. She is going to color it later . I think this could be a cool series of chicks that are like love robots women. What yall think? lol

So I tried to start this on live stream and failed. Sorry to all who tried to watch . I orginally tried to make it a traditional style painting but ended up going back to old habits lol with my sci-fi building clouds nonsense. Sorry : )

Mirror's Edge

Some stuff I did awhile ago at Work. Our Company was doing a pitch to try to get the rights to do a Mirrors Edge i-phone game. We never got it, but I remember it was first time someone relied on me to do a character illustration. It was kind of scary , but it came out rather well. Did some quick thumbnails and jumped right in. Granted I learned a great deal since then so I don't like it. Then again I am never Really satisfied haha

Lunch Break Sessions

Did an original speed paint but didn't like. So I worked on this during my lunch breaks at work this week. Learned a good deal about my painting abilities. I miss environments and got re inspired.

Freestyle and Foolishness

I was going to live stream this but the geniuses over at that site never thought to make the program for mac (I mean c'mon most macs come with built in cameras, how could you not make it for a mac) However they are making it for mac so I just gotta wait, I may try to live stream at school when it opens or at work .

Got inspired by some stock photography and ghost in the shell . Since school has been closed I have been forced to paint at home which I don't like . However , I am getting rather used to it. Been kind of working out like crazy of late because I am so out of shape. Sometimes I get so into art I forget to eat and practice unhealthy habits. So I need to find a good balance. Anyways these late night painting sessions have been rather good for me though, I am learning a lot.

Adam Ford Study

Before I left the studio I tried to do a little study of adam ford . Adam ford 1 Me 0 LOL . Kind of inspired off of the demo AJ did for me yesterday. So yeah

So yeah I never draw people except for life drawing , having a little fun with different kinds of inspirations . Hip hop , gf , peers , artists , etc . Something Different

A lot of ups and downs this past week . Got some inspiration from hip hop, body rock, gobelins , Edgar , Rejean , aj , just sat down and starting painting . I love the islands of Seychelles , they are sooo beautiful . I will vacation there someday!!

Lunch Break 2

Works has been kicking my ass lol , had my first real crunch time . Again definitely learning a lot about this industry path I have chosen lol. Ne ways heres a painting I did during lunch, took about a hour and a half. Photo ref used since my brain was so dead . More stuff to come once I get some new inspiration from body rock!!!! And GO Lakers!!

Lunch Break Practice

Did a little painting from photo ref during my lunch break today. I should probably start taking advantage of the whole cyntiq thing at work and do more lunch break paintings more often. Always learning a lot about color. Like I said not enough time in the day. Took me about an hour at work then touched for a half hour at home. Oh yeah go see "UP" that movie is friggin amazing!! : )

Been really down in my art of lately, Im not exactly sure why. Probably seeing all these dope artist own me everyday gets me a bad mood lol

Decided to take a look at zhanglu's ish and got really inspired. Of course I am also usually inspired by dope life drawing artists like edgar , teresa , charles , kevin , sergio . All those guys make me want to life draw all day . I want to post some life drawing in the near future , but I gotta do some stuff worth posting!

Anyways I painted this I learned a GREAT DEAL , like one of those moments of clarity where things all of a sudden make sense lol , its hard to explain but I think other artists know what I am talking about. Anyways Enjoy, more concepts to come, probably environments and some textures since I have been saying I am going to do textures and never do them. I wish I could post the textures from work lol .

Havin a lil fun

So I came across this program called Alchemy awhile back and I didn't like it , so I tried it again but this time I decided to read the manual lol , so yeah it made a big difference . It's lots of fun . I think I will use it for my vehicle concepts in the future

My Brother

So my brother recently torn his Achilles tendon and he will be out for awhile . Which means no flying. I know that must be hard for him , it would be like me breaking my right wrist and not being able to draw for a long period of time, thought of not being able to do what I love is rather scary.

I don't get to see my brother as much as I'd like to , I almost forgot what he looks like at times , luckily he looks exactly like me lol . Funny how a person who is never around can have such an impact on your life, and a positive one at that. So I decided to do a sketch of my brother , he is such an inspiration and I would count myself lucky to be half as successful as he is. Get well soon bro . Much love!!

Drop Ship Gun Turret

So a lot has been going on of late . Lots of exciting things happening at work. For my drop ship I did not like the gun turret so I decided to try 2 design it separately, my design kept changing throughout the process though . I have missed environments so hopefully I can some this upcoming week. Definitely taking my time more.
