Drop Ship Gun Turret

So a lot has been going on of late . Lots of exciting things happening at work. For my drop ship I did not like the gun turret so I decided to try 2 design it separately, my design kept changing throughout the process though . I have missed environments so hopefully I can some this upcoming week. Definitely taking my time more.

Round 2 Drop Ship

Round 2 with the whole vehicles thing . I know I am still learning , but not bad for second try . Definitely want to try more hard surface mech's and weapons. But basically its a drop ship those corridor things drop down and soldiers come out. I did a set of basic modular textures that could be used for texturing the ship . They are really loose but it's just to give an idea of shape language . Anyways I hope you guys like it . There will be more props and stuff to come.

So I have never tried vehicles ever . Shit is really hard . But also really fun. Must have drawn like pages of vehicles in my sketchbook . All which I threw away just to get the mileage . I tried to remember from what Carlo taught me . Definitely will be doing some more in the near future

Environment Design Week 5 HW

Been very busy lately . Feel so ashamed that I haven't posted in something in like 3 weeks . But things over at work have been busy since we have been gearing stuff up for GDC . And I lost my files at school last week . I have been learning a good deal . So many talented people that in class . Definitely inspires me to be better . So here is my hw . Keep on the look for more posts!!

Environment Design Week 2

So no Robots yet , I did some thumbnails then realized they looked more like soldiers than robot , unless they were robot soliders!!! Soon with robots and textures . Maybe awhile since I want to jump onto the group project my sketch group has at the moment . Any ways here is week 2 hw I was supposed to do more . But a cold has been gettin to me so I figure I would try to do one really nice one . I learned a good deal . I know if I get the mileage in that doing environments will become easier and easier.

Environment Practice

Heres a lil environment I did this morning before I go to work . Did lineart first then a lil bit of value to get a feel for the lighting . Trying to learn to paint more complex scenes . Hopefully Ill be able to produce some nice stuff like james below me come sunday!

Face Study

Face Study . I did one the other day but it sucked majorly . So I got kind of mad and decided that I needed to do it again until I got it right . I still haven't got it quite right but I look forward to more practice . I want to be able to do it like zhanglu one day. Ne ways look out for more textures , environments and robots !!!

Environment Design Week 1

So recently landed a part time job at Crazy Pixel . Pretty excited about that , looking forward to working hard. In addition I was lucky enough to get into James Paick environment design class at the concept design academy. I always figured he would be older lolol . Anyways I am really excited about this class ! I am already learning a lot . I think I may want to take it again just for fun . But that vehicles and mechs class does look mighty tempting. Anyways here is some of the work I am doing for that class!!

Waterfall

Been very busy of late . I think I may be even busier once I start work on monday. I am very excited to be starting and plan to work very hard to prove myself. I will still post weekly as well since I am taking classes at the concept design academy . So many cool things to come .

Character Practice

Never do any characters so I decided to practice painting one. Have been busy with freelance at the moment . I should have thought a lil more about design . okay a lot more , but it was kind of late night thing . Started sketching and then painted whatever I felt . I have much to learn about such things , so more will be to come . Still got to upload those textures : )

Doing freelance the other day and then I got tired and decided to draw my gf in a cartoony style. She can be quite easily amused at times so I was pretty much laughing the entire time I was painting this . Ne ways I love her to death . She still hasn't drawn me yet !! lol jk

WIP

Environment Break

So finally school is open again . So i got to go in and finally do work . I have a dope computer at home . But I usually don't concentrate all that well . I've been working on freelance for Nino all morning . So I decided to take a break and do a quick environment . Took me about 3 hours !!! only because photoshop cs4 here keeps crashing every 15 mins!! How lame is that!!? I think it may have to do with my brushes . So I painted pretty much like 3 times . But again I learned somethnig so it's all good . Enjoy

Enviro Practice!

Havent Done an environment for a good while so I thought I would do one. I was watching a couple of mb dvd's . Watching Whit paint is quite amazing . Its amazing how abstracts he starts out. Definitely a different way of painting I am not used to but I learned a good deal . This was about 2 hours exactly . I got lost a lot of times , but this is far as I want to take it. I look forward to exploring new styles and approaches to painting.

Vacation Sketches

Got the storyboard books , so I am still reading those . Soon I hope to have some story boards uploaded ! I am probably gonna take a class on it in the summer or spring at the CAD . I'll be taking the environment class one for sure. In the meantime here are some sketches while on the way to Germany and some before . Amazing experience !! Architecture is amazing so I will upload some pictures and stuff for everyone. I am definitely ready to get back to work !! 2009 is going to be great . Keep moving forward.

Time To Stop Sucking

Well I finally finished my portfolio show . It was nice to get some decent responses to my artwork . I'm ok with where I am at after 9 months , but I know the bar is much much higher than where I am at . Finally with school over I can focus everything on my art without being distracted by scripting classes or character animations classes , or even g.e. classes ( not that they are bad things , just not what I want to do) . Noticed a lot of people were in need of storyboard artists . So for the next few months I will be focuses on story boards . I know I can do it , just got to get back into it . I am going to buy a few books on it tomorrow and get cracking . I'll have lots of time to draw on the plane ride to Germany . So it time to stop sucking and get better . Graduation Ends . Now my Journey Begins . Watch Out!!

WIP

started it along time ago and bit off more than I can chew , I definitely wanted to explore painting complex scenes , but ultimately failed . I am going to try to finish this after all this graduation stuff. So many different types of designs and styles to learn its kind of overwhelming to take in at times , but I definitely do not want to be a one trick pony so I am putting in the work. I did learn a lot though. Ill be going to Germany next week to see my brother . So I'll be taking lots of cool pictures for us concept artist to geek out on for the holidays.

Entertainment Project - Environment

I am very satisfied that I took the class over the CDA ( concept design academy ) , if you ever have the opportunity to take Carlo's class I highly recommend it . I am learning a great deal just from his lecture and demos and I am really trying to apply his teachings in my own work. Here is an environment for his class I hope I can do value study soon!

The Morning After

this one took me a lot longer than I thought . Style is extremely difficult to me anyways , just because every line has to count . Thanx a bunch to nino and especially edgar for the help and critiques , it really helped . I would like to do a more painterly style of this same picture in the near future . Oh yeah I officially graduated ! So thats kind of cool as well . But my work is just beginning . So graduating doesn't really mean anything to me until I am dope artist working in the industry . But it makes the parents happy . Ne ways enough rambling . enjoy !

Level Up

Its crazy to think I have only been doing this for 8 months. I was looking at old sketches I did a few months around April ish . I look at them and I was like wtf was I thinking . I still think now but not at much . So I decided to take a few of them and re draw them for fun . Learned a good deal as usual . Enjoy

Sunday Concepting

So while painting at the apartment Teddy decided we all should do a concept based off of a phrase for a couple of hours . So we pulled pieces of paper out of hat with words on them and the one we got was " twilight garden" . So we had about 2 hours to paint something based off that concept . I did a couple of thumbnails and drew some things out , then basically went head first into it and this is what I came up with . I liked the result but I felt I could definitely push it more . But once again it just takes more practice.

All I See

So I have totally been off task this morning . Supposed to do some 3d , but I can't concentrate so I decided to do a couple speed paints . I was rather inspired by the song all I see by Kylie Minogue . I did some thumbnails trying to get that clubbing feel of bright lights with lots of people . But yeah if you hear the song you can kind of see what my painting is. Ok back to work!!!

Season's Greetings

its the holiday seasons which is my favorite season of the year . and it finally got cold so i get to wear my scarf which my bro gave me from germany. So I thought I'd do a holiday painting to get in the mood . The mistletoe I thought would be funny because I have this weird look on my face like I'm looking at some chick at the distance , but ne ways happy holidays.

Custom Brushes

just recently bought the 3d total custom brush tutorials , which obviously came with some cool custom brushes . Haven't used any in a very long time ( you develop bad habits ) . I try to paint it all by hand or draw it all by hand so that I don't become reliant upon the tool . Anways I thought I give the brushes a try . they were very fun!!

Eliminating weaknesses one day at a time

did some sketches of a swampy/ forest like environment . I did a couple preliminary sketches to get my ideas out of paper as well as composition. I wanted to be very loose which was kind of hard because I'm used to a more tighter style . But like Carlo said I must eliminate my weaknesses

Creature Design

Creature Design for Carlo's class . I have learned a great deal over that the academy . I definitely want to take it again along with an environment class . I had an original design prior to this . Carlo owned me so I redesigned it . Definitely makes me think harder . I must attack my weaknesses head on!!

Passing Moments

Got rather inspired by Casshern , and the new song "street lights" by Kanye West . Both have such an emotional impact . So I liked the idea of the ending in Casshern where Tetsuya is riding with his wife . They seem so happy , I think the reasoning behind it is because its so simple . He rides his bike and she simple holds on to him tight as if they don't want the moment to end.
Such a simple scene yet there is so much impact.

Tree Post

I recently did some freelance work for a facebook application game . Unfortunately none of the work will be used for the game , but I did learn a lot about adapting to different art styles and developed some nice relationships. I hope to work with them in the near future again . Ill be posting some more work from the stuff I did so stay tuned

C.G. awakening

this was a total joke idea I did for Chelton ( a.k.a chocolate god or c.g. for short ) . Basically its his epic soul calibur character that he created and its the story of him finding his sword in this cave . LOL don't ask its totally cheesy but it was fun to do it

Lighting Practice

I recently acquired the book Bold Vision by Gary Tonge , its a pretty good book , tried to emmulate some of his lighting techniques. I learned a pretty good deal so it was fun , Took me about 5 hours , I could probably do it alot faster since I made a lot of mistakes early on , but hey you now I know next time. I am going to do another one just to try to see if I can emulate decent lighting but at a faster pace. Ill be uploading my fire fighter character designs too!!

wip . Decided to go back to the old pencil and paper . Working on a run down environment concept. The line work is decent enough for me at this point . I am going to do some lighting tests in photo shop and possibly do a basic 3d model for some ambient occlusion paint over goodness!
